Whoa, its been a few weeks since I have done an update! Woops! Truthfully, this one is even late! Smack my hand. But in all honesty, not much changed between weeks 27 and 30. So an update really did not feel necessary.
Also, this might be the most unflattering picture of me every taken. Seriously. Its even worse than some of the ones I have from college. Terrible angle, terrible outfit. Major fail.
The little lady in my stomach is now 18 inches long and 3.2 lbs (or about the size of a head of lettuce). She has gone through quite the growth spurt since I last updated. My stomach seems to have popped all over again and the belly has reached a whole new level of “wow. I am pregnant”. I loved learned that her brain is working overtime these days and is developing faster than ever. She can even perceive information from all 5 senses, which is really just so cool. All day she is busy in there, moving, flipping, hiccuping, and developing those muscles for her world outside my belly. I cannot wait to meet this little girl whose routine I have come to know like the back of my hand as she moves and sleeps at predictable intervals now.
I am happy to report that I am feeling so much better since the last time I posted. I really increased my iron intake through spinach, kale, and lots and lots of burgers! Seriously, red meat has never tasted so good. When I was a vegetarian I only missed meat while I was out drinking with friends late at night. Beside those random drunken trips to McDonald’s I never even considered having meat at other times. Since adding meat back into my diet I cannot get enough. I am curious to see what happens when this pregnancy is over. I wonder if my tastes will go back to loving veggies or if I am going to be an omnivore forever.
My activity has drastically decreased thanks to those few weeks or extreme fatigue and general business around the holidays. Sadly, I did not adjust my eating as a result I have gained more weight at this point than I wanted to. From now until the end of my pregnancy I am making a conscious effort to eat better and walk at least 3-4 times a week on the treadmill. Below you can see my recipe for a nutrient packed breakfast smoothie I have been enjoying lately! It looks gross, but is oh so good 🙂
The Mama to Be Green Monster
- 2 heaping handfuls of spinach
- 1/2 avocado (which I used to love and have hated the texture during pregnancy. this is a great way to get healthy fats to support the growing brain of the babe)
- 1 banana
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 1/4 cup OJ (to help with iron absorption)
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Whole Foods Brand)
- Cinnamon (seriously. its an amazing garnish)
Stick everything in the blender and blend it to oblivion. The result is a creamy delicious breakfast that keeps you feeling full until snack time at your desk. If I do not have protein powder left I scramble 2 eggs to have on the side for some protein.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season so far!
